Before becoming a game inventor and a marketing strategist for small/mid-sized firms, I worked for several big Fortune 500 companies. One of them had a now infamous executive training program and during a not-so-rare moment of operational oversight invited me to join them out of b-school. Among the purported perks was a contact with senior executives who peppered us newly-minted professionals with worldly advice. The most haunting still haunts me to this very day: IN LIFE THERE IS WORK, FAMILY AND YOU - PICK TWO. While by no means a rebel, I certainly don't like my style and/or liberty to be cramped in any way so I vowed there & then to fashion a life that enabled me to do all three! At first I tried to segment my days in a way that allowed me to do just one thing at a time; that didn't last long. As each of these ideally mutually-exclusive aspects of existance encroached upon one another - over and over again - I decided to give up on segmentation altogether and just give my all to whatever came my way, measuring my days to ensure that my work, my family and myself each got sufficient attention. I created a system called "Fun Management" to help me "program leisure into my over-subscribed life" and I'm happy to say that it works! You can have it all (or at least much more of it than you might be getting now). All you have to do is to name whatever aspects of existence float your boat and be sure to get some (even a tiny little bit) each and every day. The mere idea of living large will give you the boost of extra energy you'll need to enjoy it all. I don't know whatever became of that erstwhile executive but I'm certainly glad to have forged my own path... What do you do to make time for it all?
